Lean into your faith when you're in need!

Good morning, dear friends! It is a joy to gather together today in the spirit of love and faith. As we embark on this journey of faith, I want to encourage you with the powerful message of leaning into your faith when you find yourself in need. In times of struggle, uncertainty, and challenge, our faith can be a firm anchor, guiding us through the stormy seas of life. In Philippians 4:19, the Apostle Paul writes, "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." This promise reminds us that God is aware of our struggles and that He is ready to provide for us. But how do we lean into our faith when we feel overwhelmed, when our needs seem too great to bear? Let’s look at the example of David, a man after God’s own heart. In 1 Samuel 30, we find David returning to Ziklag to discover that the Amalekites had raided his city, taking captive his wives and children. His men, filled with grief and anger, turned against him. It was a moment of dire need—David was alone, distressed, and facing great loss. But what did he do? The scripture tells us that "David found strength in the Lord his God" (1 Samuel 30:6). David didn’t wallow in despair or succumb to the weight of his circumstances. Instead, he leaned into his faith. He sought God, asking for guidance and strength. And as we read on, we see that God provided a way for David to recover everything he had lost. This story is a powerful reminder of how faith can transform our situations. It encourages us to turn to God, especially when we are in need. In our own lives, we may face challenges—be it health issues, financial struggles, or relationship breakdowns. I remember a friend who lost her job unexpectedly. She was devastated, feeling unworthy and anxious about her future. But instead of giving up, she leaned into her faith. She prayed, spent time in scripture, and sought the support of her community. Within weeks, she not only found a new job but one that was far better suited to her gifts and passions. This is what leaning into our faith looks like: trusting that God has a plan for our lives, even when we cannot see it. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." When we find ourselves in need, it is essential to remember that God’s plans are always good, even when our circumstances feel otherwise. There are also practical steps we can take to lean into our faith during difficult times. Firstly, we must cultivate a habit of prayer. Prayer is our direct line to God, our source of strength and comfort. In Matthew 7:7, Jesus invites us, "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." When we pray, we align ourselves with God’s will and open our hearts to receive His guidance. Secondly, immerse yourself in God’s Word. The scriptures are filled with promises and truths that can uplift our spirits. When we read about God’s faithfulness in the past, it builds our confidence in His ability to act in our present. Romans 15:4 tells us, "For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope." Lastly, do not hesitate to reach out to your community. We are called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). When we share our struggles, we allow others to walk alongside us, providing support, prayer, and encouragement. There is strength in numbers, and together we can lift each other up during our times of need. As we conclude today, I want to leave you with this thought: Leaning into your faith is not a sign of weakness; it is a declaration of strength. It is a trust that God is who He says He is—a provider, a healer, and a guide. So, whatever challenges you may be facing, do not hesitate to lean into your faith. In your moments of need, turn to God, His Word, and your community. You are not alone, and God is always ready to meet you at your point of need. Let us pray together. Lord, help us to lean fully into our faith, especially when we feel overwhelmed. Remind us that You are our provider and that we can trust in Your goodness. Amen.
