Living as an Example

Living as an Example

Diana Weronka

Good morning, beloved family in Christ! It is a joy to gather with you today as we explore the powerful topic of 'Living as an Example.' As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect His love, grace, and truth in our daily lives. So, let us dive into the Word and discover how we can be living examples of our faith. In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus tells us, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." What a profound calling! We are not just called to be believers; we are called to be beacons of light in a world that often feels dark and hopeless. When we think about living as examples, we realize that our actions speak louder than our words. It’s not enough to simply profess our faith; we must embody it in our everyday lives. Think about the people who have inspired you—maybe a teacher, a mentor, or a family member. Their actions set an example for you, didn’t they? They showed kindness, integrity, and faithfulness. We have the same opportunity to impact those around us. Consider the story of Mother Teresa, a woman who dedicated her life to serving the poorest of the poor. She did not just talk about love; she lived it out in the most profound ways. Mother Teresa once said, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." This is a perfect example of how we can live as lights in our communities. It may not always be about grand gestures but rather about the small, consistent acts of love that reveal the heart of Christ. So, how do we live as examples? Firstly, we must cultivate a relationship with God. In Philippians 2:5, we are encouraged to have the same mind as Christ Jesus. This means spending time in prayer, studying the Bible, and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us from the inside out. When we are rooted in our relationship with God, our lives will naturally reflect His character. Next, we must be intentional about our actions and choices. In Colossians 3:23-24, Paul instructs us, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." Every action, no matter how small, can be an opportunity to glorify God. Whether you’re at work, at home, or in the community, do everything with excellence and integrity. Additionally, we must be willing to serve others. Jesus exemplified servant leadership throughout His earthly ministry. He washed the disciples’ feet and reminded us that the greatest among us must be a servant (Mark 10:43-45). Look for ways to serve in your church, in your neighborhood, or even in your workplace. Acts of service not only bless others but also demonstrate the love of Christ in tangible ways. Let’s not forget the power of our testimony. Revelation 12:11 tells us, "And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. For they loved not their lives even unto death." Sharing your story of faith can inspire others to seek God. Don’t be afraid to share how God has worked in your life. Your testimony can be a light that leads others to Christ. Finally, remember that living as an example is not about perfection but about authenticity. We are all works in progress. Allow others to see your struggles, your vulnerability, and your reliance on God’s grace. In doing so, you will inspire others to be real in their faith journey as well. As we close today, I challenge each of you to reflect on how you can be a living example of Christ in your daily life. Whether it’s through kindness, service, or authentic living, let your light shine brightly. May we be a community that reflects the love of Jesus and draws others to Him. Let us pray together: Lord, thank You for calling us to be Your light in the world. Help us to live as examples of Your love, grace, and truth. Empower us through Your Holy Spirit to take action, serve others, and share our testimonies. May our lives glorify You and draw others closer to Your heart. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
