Love on your loved ones!

Good morning, beloved family in Christ! As we gather today in this beautiful space of worship, I feel compelled to speak on a topic that is both timeless and incredibly relevant: "Love on Your Loved Ones!" In a world that often feels chaotic and disconnected, we have a powerful call to action—to love those who mean the most to us with intention and purpose. Let’s start by anchoring our hearts in Scripture. In 1 John 4:7, we read, "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God." This verse serves as a beautiful reminder that love is not just an emotion; it is a divine command. When we love one another, we reflect the very nature of God himself. Now, you might be asking, "How do we love our loved ones in a meaningful way?" Let’s explore that through both Scripture and the situations we encounter in our daily lives. First, love is about presence. In Mark 10:14, Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." This verse illustrates the importance of being present. When we take the time to be with our loved ones, we show them that they are valued and cherished. Consider a simple yet profound real-life example. Imagine a father who works long hours. He comes home exhausted, but he makes it a priority to spend time with his children. Instead of zoning out in front of the television, he engages with them—playing games, helping with homework, or simply listening to their stories. This presence communicates love in a language that speaks louder than words. Next, let’s talk about encouragement. Proverbs 18:21 tells us, "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit." Our words have the power to uplift or diminish. When we speak encouragement into the lives of our loved ones, we help them grow and thrive. Think about a time in your life when you received a word of affirmation during a tough season. Perhaps it was a friend who called to check on you or a partner who reminded you of your strengths when you felt inadequate. Those moments can be transformative! Now, imagine you become that source of encouragement for your loved ones. It can be as simple as sending a text that says, "I believe in you," or taking a moment to share a compliment in person. Your words can change the course of someone’s day and, ultimately, their life. Additionally, let’s not forget the power of acts of service. Galatians 5:13 encourages us, saying, "Through love serve one another." Serving our loved ones is a tangible expression of love that can manifest in many forms. Picture a scenario where a spouse comes home to find that their partner has prepared dinner after a long day. That meal is not just food; it is an act of love that says, "I see you, and I care for you." Acts of service can also be as simple as helping a friend move or running errands for an elderly family member. These small gestures can have a profound impact on our relationships, reinforcing the bonds we share. Moreover, love requires forgiveness. In Colossians 3:13, we are reminded, "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." We are all human, and we will inevitably hurt one another. Embracing a spirit of forgiveness not only frees us but also deepens our relationships. Imagine a sibling rivalry that has lasted for years due to a misunderstanding. When one sibling reaches out, seeking reconciliation, they take a brave step toward healing. It may be uncomfortable, but it is a powerful act of love. When we forgive, we break the chains of resentment and create room for love to flourish. As we reflect on these aspects of love—presence, encouragement, service, and forgiveness—let’s consider how we can implement them in our lives this week. What would it look like for you to intentionally love on your loved ones? Perhaps you could make a list of the people you cherish and identify one specific way to show them love this week. Maybe it's writing a heartfelt letter, planning a surprise outing, or simply taking a moment to sit down and listen to them. The opportunities are endless, and the impact can be life-changing. As we close, let’s remember the ultimate example of love—Jesus Christ. In John 15:13, He states, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." This sacrificial love is the foundation of our faith. When we love our loved ones, we reflect the love that God has shown us. So, I encourage you this week: Love on your loved ones! Make it a point to express your love through your words and actions. Let us not delay in showing those we cherish how much they mean to us. Life is fleeting, and we have the beautiful opportunity to impact the lives of those around us with our love. Let’s pray together: "Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of love. Help us to love our loved ones deeply and intentionally. Teach us to be present, to encourage, to serve, and to forgive. May our actions reflect your love in this world. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen."
