Loving God Our Creator!

Loving God Our Creator!

Diana Weronka

Good morning, beloved! What a joy it is to gather together in this beautiful space, to lift our voices in praise and adoration of our Creator! Today, we celebrate the incredible love of God, our Creator, and explore how we can respond to that love by loving Him back with all our hearts, souls, and minds. Let’s begin with a scripture that beautifully encapsulates our theme today. In Deuteronomy 6:5, we read, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might." This commandment, given to the Israelites, transcends time and is just as relevant to us today. It invites us into a deeper relationship with God—one that is all-consuming, passionate, and transformative. God, our Creator, is not just a distant figure who set the universe in motion and then stepped back. No, He is intimately involved in our lives! Every good and perfect gift comes from Him (James 1:17). Just look around you—nature whispers His name! The vibrant colors of a sunset, the intricate patterns of a snowflake, the gentle rustle of leaves in a summer breeze—all of these remind us of His creativity and love. Think about your own life for a moment. How has God’s love shown up for you? Perhaps it’s in the laughter of children, the support of friends during tough times, or the peace that washes over you during moments of prayer. These are not mere coincidences; they are the fingerprints of our Creator at work in our lives! When we love God, we acknowledge His presence and action in our lives. Loving God is more than just an emotion; it is a commitment to seek Him, to know Him, and to honor Him in our daily lives. This is beautifully illustrated in 1 John 4:19, where we read, "We love because He first loved us." Our love for God is a response to His overwhelming love for us. Imagine for a moment a child who is showered with love and affection by their parents. Naturally, that child grows up wanting to express love in return. The same is true in our relationship with God. When we recognize how deeply He loves us, our hearts cannot help but overflow with love for Him! But how do we express this love? Loving God is an active endeavor. It involves our actions, our thoughts, and our choices. In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus reinforces the commandment from Deuteronomy. He tells us, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." To love God is to also reflect His love to those around us. It is in our relationships, our kindness, and our service to others that we truly express our love for God. When we feed the hungry, comfort the lonely, and stand up for the oppressed, we are demonstrating our love not only for our neighbors but also for God Himself! Let’s take a moment to consider a real-life situation. Last year, a devastating storm hit a nearby community, leaving many families homeless and in despair. In the face of tragedy, our congregation came together to support those in need. We organized food drives, collected clothing, and volunteered our time to help families rebuild. Each act of kindness was an expression of our love for God, as we served those who were suffering. We didn’t do it for recognition; we did it because we believe that loving God means loving our neighbors. In Psalm 100:3, we are reminded, "Know that the Lord, He is God! It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture." Understanding that we are created by God gives us a sense of identity and purpose. When we love God, we are acknowledging that we belong to Him; we are His creation, and we are called to reflect His glory in all that we do. As we love God with our hearts, we begin to see the world through His eyes. We become more compassionate, more forgiving, and more eager to share the hope of the Gospel with others. We start to notice the beauty in the mundane and find joy in our everyday lives. Loving God opens our hearts to His joy and peace, even amidst life’s challenges. Beloved, let us remember that loving God is a journey, not a destination. It requires intentionality and commitment. It may mean setting aside time for prayer or diving deeper into His Word. It may involve stepping outside our comfort zones to serve others or simply being present for someone in need. Each step we take in loving God draws us closer to Him and transforms us from the inside out. In closing, let us take a moment to reflect on our relationship with our Creator. How are you loving God today? What steps can you take this week to deepen that love? Let us commit ourselves to loving Him with all our heart, soul, and mind. Let us be vessels of His love in this world, shining brightly for others to see. As we go forth today, may we carry with us the joy of knowing that we are loved by the Creator of the universe! Let us celebrate that love by sharing it with all those we encounter. Amen!
